i agree with mofocro on this 2, 5, 6 sound the best in my opinion
yea theres some problems but dont give up. All we want is a server. No one cares if its temp or plugins missing ect, we just love this server and its memebers and want it to continue.
this suks. this was the best by far server cause all the other u get griefed and admins dont do crap. this is my ideal server but now its gone? also my vote for the 6 options are 2 5 and 6

Notch "might" be a decent coder, but he doesn't seem to understand business. Right now multiplayer Minecraft is essentially a trainwreck compared to a few weeks ago. And every passing day admins, like me, are getting more and more pissed at the whole thing, plus players are having to deal with broken servers, angry admins, missing plugins, temp maps etc etc which is eventually gonna make people hate him. Which is gonna suck when he eventually starts working on this "secret project" post Minecraft. Who's gonna buy new stuff from him after this? You'd think he could find the money just to bribe/contract that Hey0 kid to keep working on his mod for a bit longer until Bukkit's finally ready. If I was Notch, I'd just phone Hey0 personally and say, look, I can offer you $100,000 to keep your mod updated until the Summer, ok? No matter how pissed Hey0 might be with everything I doubt he'd turn down that kind of money.

I think there are 6 main options guys....I'm struggling to decide which to go for....
1) Continue as I said and shut down. Maybe revive it later some months down the road, if I'm still interested in Minecraft.
2) Continue server but with vanilla server i.e. no plugins at all and put the old map back. And have a whitelist so we don't get seriously griefed. We won't have towns or any of that good stuff, but at least we'd have the old map.
3) Continue server with Bukkit, and no whitelist, but with temp map, as the last few weeks. Which is what made me so depressed in the first place - Bukkit....is called that because it rhymes with F***it.....really, it sucks. It's totally FUBAR right now. So many bugs it's painful. Almost none of the plugins I've downloaded for it work so far. I can see Bukkit taking months to fix.
4) Have the old map back with vanilla server or Bukkit, but no whitelist and just police it rigorously and hope we don't get griefed. This will be stressful for all mods I think. We tried this on another server I was on once. People were constantly griefing and being jailed / banned.
5) Forget the old map for now, use temp one, maybe a new temp one and vanilla. No Bukkit.
6) Find a way to roll back the server to 1.1 and use hMod with all the plugins. Apparently some people have done it. Dunno how hard it is though. Only problem is; we'd lost all the stuff that was added and fixed for 1.2....also I guess everyone might have to rollback their clients?
Any whitelist would consist of just admins, mods and a few carefully selected others from VIPs and regulars, but only a few. Without mentioning any names; even VIPs can go rogue and do dumb stuff, so need to be careful. It's your decision guys. One problem I see with whitelists is stagnancy and no new users unless we have somekind of formal application process like Karmasnika suggested when we first started up, so we carefully vet who gets on the list....I'm kinda missing the old map too....waddy think?

thats too bad man, i liked the server, and the way it was run. the mods were nice, but it wasn't so much about the added effects as it was the lag-free, mob-ridden, building experience. ..and that annoying kid that always griefed my house. i'm gonna miss it, but thanks while it lasted man. i had fun.
